Last night Dale had a weird episode where his hips gave out, and he was totally scared. Shaking like crazy, eyes bugging out of his head, and he even peed himself a little. Jeff was at our friend Damien’s playing video games when it first happened, and I called him the second I saw Dale doing a split. (His back legs literally went out in opposite directions.) I picked Dale’s hind end up and helped him lay down in a normal way for a doggy, and then sat there hugging and petting him, trying to calm him down while I waited for Jeff to get home. (He was only about a 2 minute drive away.) I thought we were going to have to take him to the animal hospital, but after about 20 minutes he was fine again; jumping up on his hind legs, wagging his tail and all that. But it was super scary! Later I texted my friend Kayleen to tell her how I don’t think I can ever have a human baby. If I get that upset over my Dale acting hurt, I can’t imagine how I’d be if it was my own baby! Anyway, I’m kind of thinking now that maybe his legs fell asleep or something and it made him freak out – since he was all better so quickly! But next time we go to the vet we’re going to have them check out his hips if they can/will. My poor doggy.
He seems fine today too, but a little more needy than normal even. He is all over me today. I think he’s trying to play out the sympathy card, giving me those big puppy eyes to remind me “remember yesterday when I hurt? And you hugged me and loved me? Do that more.”
ETA: Oh yeah! And yay me for finishing NaBloPoMo! I think I passed. I don’t think it counts if you miss one day because you wind up in the hospital having un-planned surgery. Especially if you manage to convince a friend to post for you while you’re there! I’m at least 98% sure this is true.
